A Compassionate Trial Lawyer Who Believes Every Client Deserves Brutal Honesty and Tender Loving Care
My name is Ian Alexander. I am a proud native of Chicago. I have lived and worked in Chicago and its suburbs for more than 50 years. I was raised in the suburbs of Chicago by parents who stressed the importance of family, education, and knowing the difference between right and wrong. I was blessed with strong role models who taught me the importance of putting the needs of others before my own. I was taught to honor and value the opinions of all people. I was taught to respectfully question anything and everything. I was raised to be humble and gentle in victory, as well as proud and unbending in defeat. I was taught to be a realist. Someone who’s wishbone is not where his backbone should be. I learned to have compassion for those who fail. Why am I telling you these things? Because they have become the foundation for my career as a trial lawyer.
Since 1995, I have proudly represented the victims of negligence. I only represent those people who are injured, mostly by big corporations and hospitals. I am proudest of my work representing children who have been injured at birth and have been left with profound brain damage and the victims of sexual abuse.
When I say that I am a trial lawyer, I mean exactly that. I have the confidence and skills to take your case to trial in front of a jury and ask them to enter a verdict in your favor. I don’t just claim to be a trial lawyer, like many who advertise on the internet. I know my way to the courthouse and am an expert practitioner of the art of persuasion in the courtroom. All the verdicts and settlements achieved by me and by Goldberg & Goldberg are based on our own hard work, and not the work of other lawyers. Often, lawyers refer their cases to me because they know that I possess the specialized skills and ability to see complex cases to a conclusion. In these situations, I always act as lead counsel.
I concentrate my practice on representing the victims of catastrophic injuries in the areas of medical malpractice and complex personal injury litigation. This is all that I do and have done for almost 30 years.
I first joined Goldberg & Goldberg in 1999 and became a partner in 2004. I have tried to verdict and/ or settled a multitude of medical malpractice, sex abuse, product liability, aviation, railroad, construction negligence and other complex personal injury cases. I have recovered hundreds of millions of dollars for my clients. I have been appointed to the plaintiff’s steering committee in the litigation arising out of the Amtrak-Bourbonnais Train Disaster, the Hinkley Air Disaster, and the Oshkosh Mid-Air Disaster, among other litigation. I have published articles and authored book chapters regularly on issues pertaining to medical malpractice litigation. I serve, and have served, in leadership positions in organizations in the field of personal injury law and other civic organizations.
I attended and graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (B.A. ’92). I received my legal education at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana (L ’95). I am admitted to practice before the Illinois Bar (since 1995), the Arizona Bar (since 2011) and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and Southern District of Wisconsin. I am also a member of the Federal Trial Bar, a distinction of prestige and experience created to raise the level of quality and professionalism in federal court and one that is required of lawyers who wish to appear as lead counsel in testimonial proceedings in federal court in the Northern District of Illinois.
I am married to a beautiful and extremely intelligent fellow member of the bar and together we have two children. I reside with my family on the North Shore.

Client Reviews
“You won't find a group of attorneys that will be more dedicated to your case, and doing all the research needed to effectively present it. I especially know the qualifications of Joseph Preiser, one of Goldberg's very successful attorneys. Highly recommend them to one and all.”
